●Town Info

Yokohama is about 30 min. away by train from Tokyo, but the town atmosphere is more like a western port city.

The city was built 150 years ago as a trading hub with the west (Europe and America), and many of the historical buildings are of European style. Taking a stroll around town is relaxing and quite enjoyable, making it a popular destination for many Japanese people, however, if you are from the west, maybe you won’t find it so interesting. It’s probably better to spend your time elsewhere.

Except, Yokohama is one of the most famous places in Japan, more so than Shibuya, but not quite as famous as Shinjuku.

Yokohama Station and nearby Minatomirai district have large business districts and unique establishments. Gourmet food, shopping, entertainment are all within 2 kilometers of each other, walking around is easy and enjoyable.

The feeling of fresh ocean breeze as you walk along the streets, that are wider than Tokyo, is particularly relaxing.

The city is full of romance, at night you can witness the town lights lit up by the seaside, so it’s a great place for couples to visit as well.

It’s an easy stop to get off at if visiting Kamakura too, it’s on the return route to Tokyo. Moreover, the girls around Yokohama are stylish and beautiful. It's common knowledge.

Lastly, Yokohama is home to the largest Chinatown in Japan.

Yokohama is essentially a place with great atmosphere. At night the city is picturesque with the beach and colourful lights from the surrounding buildings. We particularly recommend going to the skyscrapers such as the Landmark Tower observation deck, parks, or hills to see scenic views.

Catching a cruise for a few hours is also a great choice.

Be sure to enjoy walking along the streets, shopping, and eating out as well!

The Minatomirai district that includes: department stores and other buildings near Yokohama station, skyscrapers, and theme parks near the sea, are all within reasonable walking distance (aprox. 4km), but it’s probably best to use the one day Minatomirai train line pass to get around.

Restaurants are less crowded and comparably cheaper than Tokyo.

Speaking of tasty food from Yokohama, we can’t leave out the famous IEKEI ramen house.

Their trademark ramen is a flavourful soy sauce base soup with thick noodles.

There are a lot of well-known ramen shops, so try them all!

On that note, 10 min. by train from Shin-Yokohama station is Japan’s first Ramen “theme park”, Shin-Yokohama Ramen MuseumHere you can try the most famous and popular ramen shops from all across Japan. It’s a popular destination for Japanese and foreign tourists like you!
